Letter From The Chairs
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Columbus Jewish Film Festival. We are gratified and deeply grateful for the enthusiastic community response to the Festival. It is your support, as funders, as volunteers, and as audience participants, that inspires and energizes us to produce this outstanding cultural extravaganza every year.
Festival 2008 takes us on a journey visiting the worlds of a Mexican family in mourning, the hip homelife of two Israeli couples, the fierce grittiness of a boxing ring, and the political and personal intrigue of an international spy. Classic themes of social justice, reconciliation, and coming of age reverberate within contemporary challenges of globalization, gender identity, and unspoken secrets.
When you enter the theater and the lights dim, you will encounter images that will move you, delight you, provoke you, and inspire you. Whether you are looking for engagement, entertainment, or education, the Columbus Jewish Film Festival has a movie for you! Please review the Festival brochure for all the Festival details.
Our team has chosen a fantastic lineup of dramas, comedies, and documentaries by Jews and non-Jews that touch on and intersect Jewish experience and cultural values. The Festival does not shy away from films that critique traditional Jewish guideposts in presenting you the best films global Jewish cinema has to offer.
In fact, this Festival hopes to fill a void by debunking Jewish stereotypes and by reconsidering the place of families, women, homosexuals and ethnic minorities in the Jewish tradition. Outreach and dialogue build bridges and compliment this mission.
By keeping ticket prices affordable and taking the films beyond the walls of Jewish community institutions, we try to invite in the widest possible audience. We thank all of you for helping the Festival make this possible and for joining us on our journey through film.
